Thanksgiving 2004
BALAD, Iraq- Soldiers on Forward Operating Base Paliwoda celebrated Thanksgiving on Nov. 25 with a 1.5-mile run and a special meal in their dining facility.
The day began with the 1.5-mile "Turkey Trot", which the Soldiers ran with full body armor on. The winner of the race was MAJ Kirby Hanson, Task Force 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Executive Officer.
"It was a good run," said LTC David Hubner, TF 1-77 Commander. "I think wearing the body armor made it a lot more fun."
Following the run, Brig. Gen. John G. Morgan, 1st Infantry Division Assistant Division Commander for Maneuver visited the FOB to thank the Soldiers who had worked hard preparing the Thanksgiving meal.

When it came time to eat, LTC Hubner and Col. Randall Dragon, 2nd Brigade Combat Team Commander helped the cooks serve the Thanksgiving Meal.

"It was our way of thanking the Soldiers for all they do for their leadership and their country ever day," Hubner said. "We look forward to doing the same kind of thing for the rest of the Holidays while we're here." (Story by Spc. Joe Alger, 1st Infantry Division Public Affairs)
