1st Platoon "A" Co., 77th Heavy Tank Battalion, Japan, 1949-1950. 1st Lt Samuel R. Fowler, KIA, Korea, July 31, 1950.
Note: 1Lt Fowler and fourteen men from this platoon (1st) were assigned to the 8064th 8th Army Provincial Tank Platoon (3 M26 Pershing medium tanks) by mid July 1950.Starting 31 July 1950 and going serval more days, six 77th tankers (including Fowler) perished in fighting east of Chinju on the road to Masan. Most of the others had been wounded. They had a bad go of it in their fight in the Pusan Perimeter. Tank engines would overheat due to poorly fitting fan belts.
