in'04 i was assigned to tf tacoma, an 81st ar bde asset (scout plt), washington national guard unit and we patrolled areas initially the responsibility of 1-77 ar around balad airbase in iraq. i have seen no mention of us in any publication on 1st inf div history. is this an honest oversight or more of the "they're only nasty guard" mentality? i had friends die on these missions and would like for us to not be forgotten. allowing us to wear your combat patch is not enough. i hope in the future, when we are asked to be as good as active duty with less money, equipement, and training time that we are afforded a bit more respect. sorry to rant, but other units are experiencing the same things.we have to get congressmen to fight for our body armor! anyways, thanks for your time and consideration.

It's Time To Decide. Steel Tigers, wives and grown children, the time is fast approaching when our tour company will want the down payment for Steel Tigers Return to Vietnam 2007. They will work with you on payments to help you gather the funds needed. I can assure you that I have never traveled with any company with as low a cost per day, nor with anyone who has as much of the costs covered within the tour fee rather than being "hidden" charges that continue to pop up while already on the trip. Remember, this tour is tailored specially for the Steel Tigers, to take us to the places most vivid in our memory and closest to our heart. We welcome our brothers from elsewhere in the 1st Bde, 5th Mech, and others who fought with us in Vietnam. It is also a great opportunity for wives and adult children to experience for themselves the feel of the land that has so influenced all of us who served there. Please contact me for additional details or a brochure, and save for the Down Payment which should be made in February, 2007. Thanks, Tom Miller, 703 476-1798 or HQ66Tom@schach.org.

For those who served with A/1/77 in August of 1968 and are looking for additional information about actions in and around 'Hill 56' north of A4 on or about 19 August 1968, I have found some additional information. The marines unit that A/1/77 supported during that action was B/1/1 Marines and 3rd Tank Battalion. For the purpose of claims it is possible that some army tanks were treated by 1st Marine corpsmen for wounds, injuries and illness. 26 communist troops were killed that day. Probably some will recall this? Good luck.
